Grand Motte Glacier

The Grand Motte Glacier in Tignes offers year-round skiing! Situated at an altitude of up to 3,456 meters, the glacier provides reliable snow conditions and is one of the few places in Europe where summer skiing is possible. The extensive terrain caters to a variety of skill levels, with wide, gentle slopes perfect for novices, as well as challenging runs for the more experienced. Additionally, the glacier's high altitude ensures excellent snow quality, even when lower-altitude resorts suffer from thawing or poor snow cover.

Beyond its impressive skiing conditions, the Grand Motte Glacier boasts breathtaking panoramic views of the Alps, offering a unique backdrop that enhances the skiing experience. The efficient lift system, including the state-of-the-art funicular railway that transports skiers from Tignes to the glacier in just a few minutes, ensures easy and quick access to the slopes.

Valley Purdu

Also known as the Canyon Run, The 'Lost Valley' is for those looking for an adventure. The narrow valley run takes skiers from the bottom of the Tommeuses lift all the way to La Daille, dropping 500 vertical meters..

The ski corridor is flanked by high rock faces and weaves and bends its way through gaps in the rock formation. One of the most thrilling features of the challenge is the 'valley cave'. In seasons with high snowfall, this section is skiable, and in low snowfall skiers need to pop off their skis and climb a short rope section to the bottom of the rocky area.

The eye of the Needle

The 'Eye of the Needle' is a distinctive rock formation located in Tignes. This natural arch, known locally as the "Aiguille Percée," is a prominent feature of the landscape, characterised by its striking hole near the top of a towering rock spire. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,732 meters (8,963 feet), the Eye of the Needle offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The Eye of the Needle is not only a geological wonder but also a symbolic landmark of the Tignes area, often featured in promotional materials and cherished by visitors for its unique and picturesque appearance.

Le Face de Bellevarde

Skiing the Face de Bellevarde in Val d'Isère is an exhilarating experience that epitomises the thrill of skiing in the Espace Killy region. Renowned for its challenging terrain and steep gradients, this iconic black run gained fame as the course for the men’s downhill and giant slalom events during the 1992 Winter Olympics. The Face de Bellevarde begins at the top of the Bellevarde mountain, offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks before plunging down towards the village of Val d'Isère. Its technical difficulty, with sharp turns and demanding moguls, makes it a favourite with advanced skiers seeking an adrenaline rush. The piste is meticulously maintained, ensuring optimal conditions for those brave enough to take it on. For those who conquer it, skiing the Face de Bellevarde is a badge of honour and a highlight of any trip!

Glacier du Grande Pisailas

Whilst the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes is the one of the most iconic and popular spots of the Espace Killy ski area, the Val D'Isere glacier, Grande Pisailas, is a must visit spot. Known for its well-groomed pistes, this area offers fast and undulating runs that are perfect for perfecting your technique. It may not have the picturesque views of the Grande Motte, but it is more easily accessible and has some of the best rolling and steep pistes on the mountain. The reliable snow conditions make it an excellent spot throughout the season, and on powder days offers some excellent off pistes skiing, which is why you will find many of the locals here!

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Espace Killy region offers an unparalleled skiing experience.
